Syn-MAP Project

The Syn-MAP Project focuses on developing a synthetic biology platform for the scalable production of mussel adhesive protein using engineered microbial systems. Through gene design, strain construction, precision fermentation, and optimized purification, the project aims to achieve stable, high-purity MAP that is suitable for advanced material, biomedical, and industrial applications.

This work addresses long-standing challenges associated with natural MAP sourcing — including limited availability, inconsistent quality, and environmental impact — by replacing extraction with a fully controlled biomanufacturing process. The project’s objective is to build a reliable, traceable, and sustainable supply route that enables the global adoption of next-generation bio-adhesive materials.
